The Suit

"The Suit" by Gordon van Vliet, a study sketch after Vetriano's, "Angel"

I love Vettriano's simple, bold style. Here is a small copy sketch done today. Measures 6x6 oil on canvas. I plan on doing more of these. The sparkles are the light bouncing off the wet paint.

If you don't know Jack Vettriano is a contempory Scottish painter. Some hate him and some love his work. I admire his sensitivity to his subject and the deftness of his handling the medium. Jack like to finish his work in one day, often a long day.

Yes, nice paintings Gordon. I happen to like Vettriano also. Despite what his critics say the guy can paint and he has done some wonderful pieces. I was attracted to "The suit" right away and wondered why it was a bit familiar to me!

Thank you Sheila for recognizing the subjects familiarity. I am very much drawn to the older illustration painters and I think Jack has mastered much of the strength I see there. It is good to read your comment. Thank you. Gordon.

I love this painting, Gordon. At first glance it looks nearly abstract. No so. The colors are bold; the oranges in the scarf etc. The hand is well done.
