Today's Painting, "Courage in Blue" by Gordon van Vliet

Another 4"W x 6"H oil on canvas finished todaywith two lions and a bottle of blue.

These lions are actually bronze locks acquired on a trip to nepal in 1984. They on standing on silver foil. I was most concerned with the composition of this piece.

This is strong in color and composition. The juxtaposition of the bronze against the blue tinged shadow is captivating.

Nice treatment of surfaces with a sense of mystery. The painting could be even stronger perhaps imagining the bottle as an object of worship in a primeval, leonine ritual. The placement of objects almost seems to imply that already, matey.

Hi Gordon,

I really like the playful quality about this painting.

Another of my favorites of your paintings.

A little "tighter" than usual which of course I like as I know you've seen my own.

The composition looks natural, yet conforms to "the golden mean".

Gold and blue main colors, compliment each other.

Very fine.

GJV,

Back to see your "Courage in Blue".

I like it more each time. Hope you still have it.

Would include it in any offerings to a gallery. I think they would jump on it.
